The Future of Binh dot Name

January 23, 2008

I've been busy these few days and haven't post as many useful posts as I should. My apologies for that. I would like to restate a few reasons here and I hope to receive your suggestions. The reasons are:

  1. This blog is being redesigned.
  2. New sub domains or domains are coming up.
  3. The URL structure is not finalized.

If you are kind-hearted, knowledgeable and give me suggestions, I will have rewards for you too. Don't worry, the minimum I could give you are some good keyword back links to your site from my PR3 blog. I'm not rich now so my pocket money is limited. I can make some nice award if what you give change my life.

Successful Migration to WordPress MU

December 12, 2007

I'm glad to announce that the migration progress is officially compete. I was spending most of the time looking for good plugins to use.

Do you notice everything look the same except the URLs? I was able to completely reserve the all data including:

  • Posts (Post ID also reserve, so the old links work fine)
  • Comments
  • Subscriptions to comments
  • Widgets
  • Plugins (with changes)
  • Themes
  • Everything else

There were some improvements in the process.

I will write more about the process later on, properly will include a complete guide "How to migrate from WordPress to WordPress MU".

Should I Migrate to WordPress MU?

November 29, 2007

It's been a while since this blog is up and running. I've been writing frequently and put myself into it. I participate in the community, learn from seniors and share my knowledge. It's time I need to consider about migrating to WordPress MU, for many reasons. Here I talk about:

  1. Why migrating?
  2. What is WordPress MU?
  3. Why WordPress MU?

Why migrating?

Many days have passed since I started thinking about URL structuring, website structuring, and multi-blogging. I've been holding back much because I don't want to write off-topic on my niche blog. "Binh dot Name" is pretty much a broad name, there is no "niche" in the name but I write much more about blogging tips than others, so far.

Christmas Theme Implemented

Finally I finish the 8 hour overnight work on modifying my blog layout using the Christmas Days theme. Last night I when I logged in to the WordPress control panel I did I quick check on the latest news about WordPress. Out of which was the 20 Nov releases of WordPress theme and plugins.

The New Themes

I found nothing special about the new plugins but found very interesting new themes.

After spending 1 hour testing the demo and on my own blog, I left a comment on that page like this:

Major Blog Building Considerations

November 16, 2007

At this time I'm pretty lazy at designing and coding things. I've been stumbled on the Blog World, which give me the stronger will to live (blogging). I want to write more and more. However it's time to really do some serious decisions.

I started posting my blog entries with WordPress because I felt that's a necessary initiative. However, I strongly need to consider few things.

Website structure

The biggest issue I'm having is the website structure. I'm still wondering whether

  1. putting niche topics on separate subdomains, and so using WordPress MU to power my site,

A Glance at JustSimple WordPress Theme

November 7, 2007

I just stumbled on a WordPress theme called JustSimple, and I could say from the first look: "I will use it".

Good things about JustSimple

This theme, regardless of having only 2 images, 1 for background, and 1 for the RSS feeds, look so elegant and easy on the eyes. As the name suggests, JustSimple is a simple lightweight WordPress theme.

Take a look at the screen-shot below:

JustSimple

This is exactly what I wanted. A simple but good looking theme for fast loading.

Yes, I have chosen WordPress for my blog site.

This is a temporary decision. I'm still choosing between WordPress and Drupal. I have been collecting information on the various most popular Content Management System (CMS) like Joomla, Mambo, Drupal, XOOPS, WordPress and a few more.
