Proven Way to Gain Huge Traffic with StumbleUpon
November 28, 2007
Have you ever heard of StumbleUpon? I have an account with them but have not used since I made it. StumbleUpon is a social-media (social network) that allows user to tag and blog about things they found on the Internet.
StumbleUpon is very similar to Digg.com, Del.icio.us. However it is more blogging oriented, and hence more friendly to bloggers.
A peer's testimonial
I, myself overlooked StumbleUpon. But that's about to change. After I read Sujoy shares his own experience after submitting his own blog posts onto StumbleUpon. Sujoy claims to have few hundred unique visits a day thanks to using this social network. I found him via Yeepage's love links.
My own analysis
Yesterday I tested it. Today result is amazing.
Test results
My personal record before using StumbleUpon:
- Saturday Nov 16: 34 visits, 140 pageviews,
- Sunday Nov 17: 56 visits, 102 page views,
Then after I stumbled my own pages, I got:
- Monday Nov 26: 226 visits, 411 pageviews
- Tuesday Nov 27: 416 visits, 773 page views (still counting)
Can you see the difference? StumbeUpon alone sent me 548 visits during 2 days making it 49.86% of the whole life time of this blog.
Evidence
Here are my screen-shots of what happened:
No page stumbled, 33 visits:

Stumbled, 416 visits:

Top traffic sources, 548 from StumbleUpon:

I don't know why, but this particular page is getting so many hits, 241 landing from StumbleUpon and 449 page views in total: Article: Importance and The Right Way to Submit
Unfortunately there is a very bad tendency with Stumble users, they don't click ads. I got 0 clicks from 700 impressions. 0% CTR, what the heck. For 2 days, I got over 1500 page views, but no ad clicks.
crying)
What's next
I'm very happy with the result from testing out StumbleUpon. What I need to worry now is serious layout and professional writing. I would like my writing to be as simple as possible so that everyone can understand. Please always give me feedback so that I can improve.
You see, I always share everything I learn from the blogging world. So for a easier experience, feel free to subscribe to my RSS feed via email and stay up to date with my findings.
I still have some doubts, is it my ads suck, or is it they don't like to click ads? Please do feed me your opinion, I'm really hungry for it.

i also have a stumbleupon account but unfortunately i don't really know what to do with it... just taken a look at your page http://binhcan.stumbleupon.com/. is that all to include all your posts on this page at the "Favourites > His Blog" section?
Hi,
Thanks for linking to my post.
Cheers!
Sujoy
Haan, you need to install the StumbleUpon toolbar to bookmark pages. Otherwise you need to setup some bookmark links.... that will be another long story. And Yes, those in my StumbleUpon blog are my posts here and some stuffs I found really good.
Sujoy, thanks for your initial information I could make this long post
I can only agree.
Stumbleupon works great for me, too!
My stats looked pretty much the same
sorry if i ask stupid question.. the SU toolbar is already here. everytime i click "Stumble!" it will load some other pages for me to rate (like or dislike). how to really setup some bookmark links.. ?? is it done in several simple clicks? after u setup the bookmark links, they appear on your page at the “Favourites > His Blog” section?
pretty tired after work to read thru the Help.. hence asking u here. really sorry..
Sasha, thanks for sharing information, and congratulation that mean you also get hips of traffic. Just one question though, do you get any ad clicks from those traffic? I don't
Only when Googler come they do clicks. So sad.
Haan You are very welcomed to ask, and I'm always happy to answer. Myself also got struggle with Stumble too. Seem like every big website they don't care the KISS principle.
If you want to post your page, or any page you will need to click the thumb-up "I Like it!" button (or the thumb down if you hate some page). Then a window will pop up and ask you to enter more details. If you want to save time, simply highlight some introduction part of the page prior to clicking the "I like It" button.
Remember to put 5 commonly used tags in the tags box so that people easily find your page. There are a lot more to learn, so ... take it easy.
Binh, thanks for your explanation. will try it soon.

Can I ask a short question? By the way, I'm back already. I just read your post on the Birthday party. That's a big Birthday Party.
On my blog I put words in the Tag section, but wasn't sure what it's for. is that like using Keywords for Google Adwords?
Drasan »
I check your blog is hosted by blogspot. The Labels on blogspot acts as category for your posts. So you can use them to group the posts together. For example you have
I can see a few repeated keywords here: "Checklist" and "Wannable Traders". If you type in those keywords as tags or labels, then they will display as related posts. In blogspot the term Label actually refer to as Category, while in WordPress it's tag.
Your posts are pretty well organized. However you should keep the labels 1-3 words and should use more common words so that more posts are grouped in the same category.
You can enable the Labels page element in the "Template" page in Blogger.com control panel.
You can organize the Labels in the Edit Posts.
Yes, if you have many posts that talk about similar topics, which are the same as popular keywords in the Google AdWords keyword tools, then I strongly encourage you to use them as the Labels. That will help a lot in search ranking.
thanks
BihnBinhThis blog stuff is like learning a new language.
But I'm getting there.
BihnBinhI went to Stumbleupon and joined, but I read on your blog at the top of this page under "A Peers Testimonial" about submitting blogs to Stumbleupon
Does that mean you have to make a new blog hosting supplied by them or you just fill out info on your own blog and submit that to Stumbleupon? I would like to submit my blog but don't know what to do. Can you help?
Drasan » Earlier on I responded to Haan regarding how to send a page to StumbleUpon. That "A peer's testimonial" is written regarding someone else who also tried StumbleUpon and found it gave him huge traffic. There is hosting required.
It's a sort of social bookmarking. StumbleUpon.com gives you a blog on their site. When you do the same as what I told Haan, you actually put a link to your page onto your blog on StumbleUpon. Then with proper tagging, other stumble users will find your page and if they are interested, have a look at it.
[...] and I’m eager to learn more about how it work. If you read my testimonial on the surge in traffic from StumbleUpon then you may have the same questions I have. So I searched and learn things that are totally new. [...]
Yes, StumbleUpon is wonderful. Nice results you've got there. Take a look at my "Stumble Spike" at http://www.poeticmoney.com/2007/11/StumbleUpon-Really-Delivers.html
Hi, Binh
I tried a couple of weeks ago to set up a blog on stumbleupon and for some reason couldn't figure it out. I'm going to look at it again today. I would like to try out the process and see if I can get some traffic. Very interesting info so I hope I can take part.
