5 Reasons iPhone is Not What I Wanted
April 25, 2008
Recently I became aware of iPhone smartphone which use Mac operating system. I tested an iPhone at a mobile phone shop and notice the features and speed are good. However, it is not an ideal choice for me.
I'm not a fan of Mac, but that isn't the reason I'm not choosing iPhone. I has been using Windows Mobile PDA since 2006. I used an O2 XDA IIi and an O2 XDA IIi. Windows Mobile is great for synchronizing between the PDA and the personal computer (PC) I'm not a mobile phone expert.
That's why before buying something I read a lot of reviews. This time I actually asked about this on the BrightHand Forum Is iPhone better than PDA Phone? The experts told me not to buy it.
The reasons why I won't buy an iPhone:
Here are the disadvantages of the iPhone:
- No flexibility of Office suite syncing, editing, formatting;
- No tap-hold cut/paste function;
- No selection of multiple emails/texts;
- It doesn't do JAVA or FLASH;
- Security on the iPhone is practically nonexistent;
On Brithhand forum, many people had their says, and here is the most complete answer to my question (by pixelator):
You can sync basic Contacts and Calendar elements, but the iPhone is a LONG way from having the flexibility of a WM or PPC device in terms of Office suite syncing, editing, formatting. I don't know how invested you are in the traditional WM way of doing things, but you might find it unnerving that you can't tap-hold-cut/paste or select multiple emails/texts. I know I did.
What the iPhone has is a truly spectacular browser (Safari with scalability). It doesn't do JAVA or FLASH, however and unless you Jailbreak your phone, which is easy enough to do but may void your warranty or cause you other hassles, a WM user may find that there's just too much control being exerted by Apple over the user experience. They want to sign off on all upcoming third party development and even though they WANT people to see their phone as a business option, it currently really isn't. Security on the iPhone is practically nonexistent and it's apparently driving IT people nuts with so many wanting to use their iPhones for work....
Bottom line is, the iPhone is difficult to quantify and seems to contradict itself at times. if you're really wanting portable MS Office functions you want to be very clear on your specific needs. For basic Contacts/Calendar with reminders, the iPhone works. Much more than that and you may be sorely disappointed. You won't mind the gorgeous, wonderful UI, though. YMMV but while I'd take a clamshell or slideout keyboard any day of the week, the iPhone onscreen keyboard, which has quite a learning curve to it, is superior to the basic WM popup equivalent.

Why would you want to sync with Office? (;-P I'm a Mac user and hate Microsoft products... they just don't work!)
cut/paste.... I can understand that... it's not a computer though...
multiple selection will come... but again, it's not a computer.
does any other phone do Java or Flash? I can tell you though that there is not another phone with a full built in html browser...
security? hm... never heard that one...
I have messed with Windows Mobile and a Blackberry before.
and I promptly put it down...
It's just so dang confusing!
Brian, you dont know much. There are plenty of phones with flash, and java is almost universally supported, even by dumb phones. 3rd party software on the blackberry are almost universally java based.
If your phone is a toy no wonder you would not worry about office support and security.
You stated things that haven't been released yet. Every single issue you have with it will be more than likely added in the 2.0 update in a few months. The iphone beats the HELL out of the modern day PDA. hands down.
Well I can't wait for Google Android to come out.
Brian Purkiss, I need sync for organizing things such as contacts, calendar and tasks. Without that any phone is just a cellphone for me. I don't use it for multimedia purpose so iPhone is useless without the feature I mentioned.
Surur, your statement about this topic is correct.
Kyle, I agree with you. And that's what Brighthand members said too. When that 2.0 come out I wish it will be smaller a little and the price is reduced so I can afford it in my pocket.
Bob, I don't know if you are spamming. Does your comment has anything to do with my post?
Exactly! These are the reasons why I also didn't by an iPhone!
EDIT: This maybe a spam, but I allow it
